We climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro on Saturday.
We left the outpost at 8am and drove 2.5 hours to Mt. Kilimanjaro. Once we got there we all had to sign in at the base of the mountain. After we got that all taken care of, our guides gave us a brief overview of what we were going to be doing. They pointed us to the entrance of the trail and off we went!
We climbed to the first hut on Mt. Kilimanjaro.
It seems so simple when you talk about it, and see it on the map… but I definitely struggled. We were barely 20 minutes into our 3 hour hike to the hut and I started having breathing problems. It felt like I was breathing through a straw! Even when I wasn’t moving I still couldn’t breath, but I still wanted to make it to the first hut, and I made it!
Once we made it to the first hut we took a break and had a snack to give us some more energy, and then headed back down the mountain. Thankfully, my breathing returned to normal and I was able to enjoy the hike down the mountain.
On the way down I was able to look at all of the amazing trees and plants that surrounded the trail. We saw some monkeys hanging out in the tree, and smelled the beautiful flowers.
This was definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity that I’m glad I had the chance to do! 🙂
